Ocassionally, we come across an interesting (and often well written) review that none of us has seen. Here's one from Minneapolis.
Kevin M. writes,
"This place is freaking AWESOME! The proprietors are personable, the menu is limited but generous, the atmosphere is 100% north woods. The place is at the crossroads of three major snowmobile trails, so in the winter it's packed. But come spring you realize that it's on a one-lane gravel logging road twenty miles from the nearest building. Literally the middle of nowhere. The appetizers are standard pub fare done well - the wings are crispy and delicious, the curds are everything fried cheese should be and nothing it should not, the walleye fingers are appropriately regional. What with the train trestle origins, the menu has a rail related theme. The Junction Burger is good. The Trestle burger is good. But don't play with model HO scale trains when you can hop on a freight and get yourself a Trainwreck. Two 1/3 lb patties - one beef, one bratwurst - plus bacon, plus two cheeses. If you get it With Casualties you are at the mercy of the chef. Whatever he chooses to top your Trainwreck off with is what you get. You can tell him certain things you don't want (allergies, etc,) but there's no sending it back once it comes. I've seen it topped with a fried egg and sauerkraut, peanut butter, or jalepeƱos and cole slaw. I've never seen anyone pick anything off or act the least bit disappointed with their grab bag of LDL craziness. If ever you find yourself twenty or so miles east of Finland MN on a winding dirt forest road, look for the building that just shouldn't be. Walk past the St. Bernard on the porch, step inside, and let yourself be wowed by the sheer force of the red meat consumption this climate requires of its inhabitants. Last time I was here I slipped into my food coma watching Caddyshack on the T.V. above the bar. I love Northern Minnesota."
Thank you Kevin...I couldnt have said it better.
